Bank Alfalah Auto Loan — how the product actually works

Bank Alfalah markets this financing as its "Auto Loan" (with an "Instant Auto Loan" fast-track variant for pre-approved cases). Only locally assembled or manufactured cars qualify — new or used, plus semi-commercial vehicles — because State Bank of Pakistan rules bar banks from financing new or used imported vehicles. The bank finances up to 70% of the vehicle's price, so the minimum down payment is 30%. Tenure depends on engine size: 2 to 5 years for cars up to 1000cc, and 2 to 3 years for cars above 1000cc. Loan size runs from PKR 200,000 to PKR 3,000,000. Minimum gross monthly income to qualify is PKR 30,000 for salaried applicants, PKR 50,000 for self-employed professionals, and PKR 100,000 for self-employed businessmen.

Pricing, insurance and SBP rules behind the numbers

Bank Alfalah prices the Auto Loan on a floating basis: the 1-year KIBOR fixed on the first of each month, plus a spread the bank lists as KIBOR + 3.50% for a 2-year tenure, +4.00% for 3 years, and +4.50% for 4–5 years (the longer terms are only available on vehicles up to 1000cc, per the tenure caps below). Borrowers who want to fold their first year's comprehensive insurance premium into the loan rather than pay it upfront can do so for roughly an extra 1% on the markup.

These terms sit inside the State Bank of Pakistan's Prudential Regulations for Consumer Financing. BPRD Circular Letter No. 29 of 2021 raised the minimum auto-finance down payment from 15% to 30%, cut the maximum tenure from 7 to 5 years, capped a single borrower's combined auto-finance exposure across all banks and DFIs at PKR 3,000,000, and stopped banks financing imported vehicles altogether. BPRD Circular Letter No. 19 of 2022 tightened tenure further for bigger engines: vehicles above 1000cc are now capped at 3 years, while 1000cc-and-under vehicles keep the 5-year limit. Bank Alfalah's published terms above match these caps exactly.

Worked example

For example: a PKR 2,500,000 locally assembled 1300cc sedan, financed with Bank Alfalah's minimum 30% down payment (PKR 750,000), leaves PKR 1,750,000 to finance over a 2-year tenure. Combining Bank Alfalah's published 2-year spread (1-year KIBOR + 3.50%) with a representative KIBOR near the SBP's September 2026 policy rate of 11.5% gives an illustrative all-in rate of roughly 15.0% p.a. (the live 1-year KIBOR moves daily and differs from the policy rate — check it before relying on this figure).

Frequently Asked Questions

What down payment does Bank Alfalah require for an Auto Loan?

A minimum of 30% of the vehicle's price, so Bank Alfalah finances up to 70% of the value. This 30% floor is set by the State Bank of Pakistan's Prudential Regulations for Consumer Financing (BPRD Circular Letter No. 29 of 2021), not by the bank alone.

Can Bank Alfalah finance an imported or used-imported car?

No. SBP rules bar banks from financing new or used imported vehicles. Bank Alfalah's Auto Loan only covers locally assembled or manufactured cars, new or used.

How long can I take to repay a Bank Alfalah Auto Loan?

Up to 5 years for vehicles of 1000cc or below, and up to 3 years for vehicles above 1000cc — the SBP's current tenure caps, which Bank Alfalah's published terms mirror exactly.

What does Bank Alfalah charge to process an Auto Loan?

Bank Alfalah's Schedule of Charges lists a processing fee of PKR 9,000 plus 16% Federal Excise Duty. Borrowers also pay a full year's comprehensive insurance premium upfront, or add about 1% to the markup to defer it.

Is Bank Alfalah's Auto Loan Shariah-compliant?

No, the standard Auto Loan is conventional, KIBOR-linked financing. For an Islamic alternative, compare Meezan Bank's Car Ijarah, a lease-based structure with no interest.
