What counts toward Zakat

Zakatable wealth includes cash and bank balances, gold and silver, shares and investments, and business assets. Debts you owe are subtracted. Zakat becomes due at 2.5% once your net wealth stays above the nisab (roughly the value of 87.48g of gold) for a full lunar year (hawl).

Nisab and timing

The calculator above works out your nisab threshold as gold price per gram × 87.48g — the standard gold nisab weight (some scholars instead use the lower silver nisab, 612.36g, which includes more people; this tool uses the gold figure, the more common convention). The gold price is a plain, editable field, not a live feed — this tool does not scrape or cache a gold price for you, deliberately, because a stale cached price could quietly under- or over-state what you owe. Check today's price (e.g. a bullion dealer or financial-news site) and enter it before relying on the result. Zakat is only due once your net wealth has stayed above the nisab for a full lunar year (hawl), not just on the day you calculate it.
