Fixed deposit rates in Brazil (2026)

Brazil's term deposit is the CDB, usually priced as a percentage of the CDI, which tracks the Selic (13.75% since 16 September 2026). Large banks pay about 100% of the CDI: Itaú and Bradesco do not publish a single CDB rate on their sites (check your offer in each bank's app), while BV advertises CDBs from 100% of the CDI, including 110% of the CDI on CDB Renda BV. That works out to roughly 13.6%–15% a year.

At around 14%, the fixed-deposit rate in Brazil is very high in nominal terms - but rates this large usually track higher local inflation, so your real, after-inflation return can be far smaller than the headline suggests.

Reference figures, ~2026. FD interest is often taxable and rates vary by bank and tenure - verify the current rate before depositing.

How to get the best fixed-deposit return in Brazil

A named-bank rate check: Itaú and Bradesco (2026)

Itaú and Bradesco describe their CDBs as paying a percentage of the CDI without publishing a single rate (check on each bank's site), while BV advertises CDBs from 100% of the CDI, including 110% of the CDI on CDB Renda BV (rates as of 7 August 2026 on bv.com.br). The Copom cut the Selic by 0.25 percentage points to 13.75% a year on 16 September 2026, its fifth consecutive cut, and the CDI runs just below the Selic. A CDB paying 100%–110% of the CDI therefore yields roughly 13.6%–15% a year before income tax. Because the return is linked to the CDI, it rises or falls with each Selic decision unless you buy a fixed-rate (prefixado) CDB.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is FD maturity calculated in Brazil?

Maturity = P × (1 + r/4)^(4n) for quarterly compounding, where P is the deposit, r the annual rate and n the years. fin·calc uses this standard method.

Is a fixed deposit safe in Brazil?

Fixed deposits carry no market risk. The Fundo Garantidor de Créditos (FGC) covers CDBs up to R$ 250,000 per CPF per financial institution or conglomerate, subject to an overall cap of R$ 1 million per CPF in any four-year period. They trade higher safety for lower long-term returns than equities.

A fixed deposit gives a guaranteed return and suits money you cannot afford to risk. Investing targets higher long-term growth but can fall in value. Many people keep an FD for safety and invest separately for growth.

BV advertises CDBs from 100% of the CDI, including 110% of the CDI on CDB Renda BV; Itaú and Bradesco quote a percentage of the CDI in their own apps. With the Selic at 13.75% since 16 September 2026, that is roughly 13.6%–15% a year before tax.

How is CDB interest taxed, and is it protected?
