Fixed deposit rates in Bahrain (2026)
Bahraini banks rarely publish BHD term-deposit rates online; BBK's digital bank ila published 12-month BHD fixed-deposit rates of 3.00%–3.50% (paid at maturity, by balance tier and Classic/Premium tier, effective May 2026). BBK, NBB and NBK Bahrain state rates only through branches or relationship managers, and their BHD terms generally run from 1 month to 12 months.
At around 3.2%, the fixed-deposit rate in Bahrain is around the typical range for developed-market deposits.
Reference figures, ~2026. FD interest is often taxable and rates vary by bank and tenure - verify the current rate before depositing.
Worked example
For every BHD 7,500 deposited at 3.20% for 5 years (quarterly compounding):
- Maturity value: BHD 8,796
- Interest earned: BHD 1,296
Scale to your deposit amount. Longer tenures and higher rates grow the maturity value; compare banks before locking in.
How to get the best fixed-deposit return in Bahrain
- Compare several banks - smaller and digital banks often pay more than the big high-street names.
- Ladder your deposits across different tenures so some matures regularly and you can reinvest at new rates.
- Check how often interest compounds; more frequent compounding grows the maturity value.
- Factor in tax on the interest, and compare against short-term government bills or bonds.
A named-bank rate check: ila Bank by BBK (2026)
ila Bank, the digital bank of Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait (BBK), publishes 12-month BHD fixed-deposit rates of 3.00% (ila Classic, BD 500–50,000, at maturity) up to 3.50% (ila Premium, BD 500,001–1,000,000, at maturity). Monthly-payout rates are lower, from 2.80% to 3.35%. These rates are labelled effective May 2026 and were still posted when checked on 12 October 2026. Bahrain pegs the dinar to the US dollar, and the Central Bank of Bahrain's policy rate is its one-week deposit facility rate. The CBB's own standing-facilities page still showed that one-week deposit rate at 4.50% when checked on 15 October 2026, although the CBB was reported to have raised it by 25 basis points on 16 September 2026, in step with the US Federal Reserve. Confirm the current figure on the CBB's site. BBK, NBB and NBK Bahrain do not publish their BHD term-deposit rates online.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is FD maturity calculated in Bahrain?
Maturity = P × (1 + r/4)^(4n) for quarterly compounding, where P is the deposit, r the annual rate and n the years. fin·calc uses this standard method.
What is the current FD rate in Bahrain?
As a 2026 reference, fixed-deposit rates are around 3.2% per year, varying by bank and tenure.
Is FD interest taxable in Bahrain?
Bahrain levies no personal income tax, so resident individuals pay no tax on deposit interest and banks withhold nothing.
Is a fixed deposit safe in Bahrain?
Fixed deposits carry no market risk. The Central Bank of Bahrain's Deposit Protection Scheme (CBB Rulebook module CP-2) pays an eligible depositor a maximum of BD 20,000 across all of their eligible accounts at a failed bank. They trade higher safety for lower long-term returns than equities.
Should I choose a fixed deposit or invest instead in Bahrain?
A fixed deposit gives a guaranteed return and suits money you cannot afford to risk. Investing targets higher long-term growth but can fall in value. Many people keep an FD for safety and invest separately for growth.
What is a typical 1-year fixed deposit rate in Bahrain?
Published 12-month BHD rates are scarce. ila Bank (BBK's digital bank) posts 3.00%–3.50% at maturity depending on balance and account tier (effective May 2026), so about 3.2% is a reasonable middle figure. Other major banks quote rates only through their branches.
Is fixed-deposit interest taxed in Bahrain, and is my deposit protected?
Bahrain has no personal income tax, so you keep all the interest. Eligible deposits are covered by the CBB Deposit Protection Scheme up to BD 20,000 per depositor per bank.
